Privacy Policy

1. Summary

Your scanned documents, document contents, metadata, and app preferences are stored locally on your device. TaxScanZA does not upload your documents to our servers or use them for analytics.

We collect limited, pseudonymous product-interaction analytics from the app and limited website analytics. We do not use this information for advertising or cross-service tracking.

2. Documents and local storage

Scanned pages, prepared files, document names, categories, sizes, and app preferences remain on your device. Document scanning and preparation happen on device. We cannot access or recover these files.

Deleting a document removes it from the app. Deleting the app normally removes its locally stored data, subject to your device, operating-system backups, and any copies you previously exported.

3. Camera and file access

TaxScanZA uses camera access to scan documents and file or share-sheet access when you choose to import or export a file. Images and files are used only to perform the action you request and are not included in analytics.

4. App analytics

The production app uses PostHog to collect pseudonymous product-interaction events, such as screens viewed, feature actions, purchase-flow results, app version, platform, and basic device or technical information. This helps us understand reliability and improve the product.

App analytics do not include document images, document text, filenames, tax information, payment details, your name, email address, phone number, precise location, or advertising identifier. Analytics are not linked to an account because TaxScanZA does not require an account. Session recording and advertising tracking are not used.

5. Website analytics

This website uses PostHog to record page views, page paths, page titles, referring hostnames, campaign parameters, compliance-checker results, and clicks leading to an app store or download page. Session recording, automatic interaction capture, surveys, and advertising tracking are disabled.

Do not place personal or tax information in links to this website. Document names and contents are never sent to website analytics.

6. Purchases

In-app purchases are processed by Apple App Store or Google Play. Those providers handle payment and store-account information under their own privacy policies. TaxScanZA receives purchase status needed to unlock or restore Pro but does not receive or store your full payment-card details.

7. Service providers and international processing

PostHog processes the limited analytics described above on our behalf using its European Union infrastructure. Apple and Google process store transactions and related technical data. These providers may process information outside South Africa and apply contractual and security safeguards under their respective terms.

We do not sell personal information. We may disclose limited information where required by law, to protect legal rights or security, or to a service provider acting under our instructions.

8. Retention and security

Your documents remain on your device until you delete them, delete the app, or your device removes them. Limited analytics are retained only for product analysis and operational needs, then deleted or aggregated. We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards, but no networked service can guarantee absolute security.

9. Your choices and rights

You can stop app analytics through the privacy or analytics control provided in the app, where available, or stop all collection by uninstalling the app and not using the website. Browser storage and site data can be cleared through your browser settings.

Subject to applicable law, including the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013, you may ask about personal information we hold, request correction or deletion, object to certain processing, or lodge a complaint with South Africa's Information Regulator. Because analytics are pseudonymous and not linked to an account, we may be unable to identify a particular record as yours.

10. Children's privacy

TaxScanZA is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when TaxScanZA, applicable law, or our practices change. The effective date above will be revised, and material changes will be communicated through the app, website, or another reasonable channel.
