What this checker looks for

  • File size against the 5MB SARS eFiling limit, with a warning from 2MB so you have room for a multi-page scan.
  • Common upload formats: PDF, JPG, JPEG, or PNG.
  • Filename characters that commonly create upload problems.
  • Image resolution against the 300 DPI SARS guidance, read from the file's own metadata.
  • The PDF /Encrypt marker used by password-protected or encrypted PDFs.
  • The total number of supporting documents, against the SARS maximum of 20 per submission.
Important: This browser check cannot judge scan readability, crop quality, or whether SARS will accept the tax claim itself. Resolution can only be read from JPG and PNG files that carry it; a PDF does not expose a single DPI value to a browser. These are file-level upload checks, not tax advice.
